If you watch church service on television today, you better do so with a boatload of discernment because the majority of popular television preachers are absolutely corrupt. Even though Trinity Broadcasting Network, the medium through with many false teachers share their corrupted message, is located in Hollywood, Florida and not Hollywood, California, it seems that it too is being run by devils.

It’s not hard to see that the overwhelming majority of television programming is ungodly. Unfortunately, most televangelists of today are no exception. The popular televangelists like Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer distort scripture, don’t speak out against sin, promote false doctrines, and deceive people into believing that there are several ways to get to God. They prey on the weak in spirit and the biblically illiterate and use the Bible for financial gain.

God says in 2 John 1:10-11, "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds." So that means when religious groups come knocking on our doors pronouncing a different gospel, we are not to let them in. We should avoid personally letting them in our homes and we should avoid letting them in remotely through television and other media as well.

Here are some of the the false teachings spread through the false teachers of TBN. They teach the following:

  • People are gods
  • God is the biggest failure in the Bible
  • God is kicked out of the Earth and needs an invitation
  • The Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ was not enough to atone for sin
  • Jesus became one in nature with Satan
  • Jesus was a very wealthy man with designer clothes
  • Adam was superhuman and the first man on the moon
  • Jesus had no existence prior to being in the flesh
  • Below is a handful of some popular false teachers along with some of their teachings:

Joel Osteen

Joel doesn’t correct those who follow false religions like Hinduism and Mormonism. He expresses that if they believe in God, they are saved. But not all religions follow the one true God and not all of them believe on Jesus Christ the way to be saved. By his own admission, he doesn’t know much about biblical doctrines. Yet, he remains to be one of the most popular religious leaders of today.

Sid Roth

Sid makes outrageous claims like being able to teach people how to pray in tongues. Speaking in tongues is a gift that is only given by God, yet he has audiences believing that they can learn it. When leading the audience into babbling nonsensical sounds calling it prayer, he says things like, "I know you don’t know what you are saying but do it anyway!"

He has a show called "It’s Supernatural" where he has on guests that promote strange techniques that supposedly help you tap into supernatural states of being under the disguise of Christianity.

Creflo Dollar

Creflo teaches that Christians are "little gods." He teaches that we are just like God and we can call things into existence by speaking it. He uses Genesis 1:25 that states that everything produces after it’s own kind. He asserts that since God created us, we must be little gods – but that is blasphemy. We may be the pinnacle of God’s creation, but God is sovereign and only he can call things into existence. By the way, desire to be like God is the reason why we live in a fallen world in the first place.

Kenneth Copeland

Kenneth Copeland claims he can control the weather by speaking to it. His wife Gloria describes an event where she and Kenneth saw a tornado touch down. As the story goes, Kenneth rebuked it and told it to "Get back up there!" It then dissipated as quickly as it formed. Kenneth Copeland also says that the biggest failure in the Bible is God.

Jessee Duplantis

This false prophet has no shame or fear of the Lord. He actually claims that God has asked him for his advice. He claims that he has counseled God, told God what the Bible says, and states that God took his advice..

Joyce Meyer

She twists scripture and mixes in false information with truth making it difficult to know the Word of God really says. She also teaches that God turned his back on Jesus and the Jesus ceased to be God while on the cross. She says he died spiritually on the cross and was born again in hell. Furthermore she says that when he went to hell that all the hosts of hell were on Jesus’ back literally jumping up and down on him in celebration. The Bible teaches none of this.

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah denies that Jesus is the only way to be saved. She says there are several paths to get to what this person calls God and what that person calls God. That was aired to millions of viewers years ago. Since then, she’s become one of the most polarizing figureheads of the New Age Movement along with author Eckhart Tolle. According to so4j.com, " …Eckhart Tolle is promoting a new religion, one which combines the most mystical aspects of every major religion. The first chapter, of course, sets the tone and direction for the rest of the book. This direction happens to be as far from biblical truth as is possible." You can see more at:

Victoria Osteen

Joel’s wife Victoria states the following: "Jesus was a regular man until God touched him and put the spirit of God on the inside of him." This sounds ridiculous but there are several others who teach the same heresy including Kenneth Copeland and Bill Johnson.

Scripture warns us over and over about not being deceived:

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." – 1 John 4:1

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." – Colossians 2:8

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." – 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Satan has waged war on us and we are under attack every day. Repeatedly, Jesus warns us not to be deceived. Just as there were false teachers in biblical times, so are there false teachers today. It’s more important than ever to read, study, and familiarize yourself with scripture because the time of great tribulation draws closer and closer with every passing day. God’s word is sharper than any 2 edged sword – it’s the weapon we use to fight this war. Ready yourself for his attacks is with knowledge of the holy scriptures. Take 2 Timothy 2:15 to heart:

"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
